 UPDATE: I adjusted the alert settings to only alert for people and vehicles. This helped tremendously. I am very impressed with the night video quality. You cannot beat these cameras for the money. I am comparing them to my Arlo cameras and these are better and with a more consumer friendly subscription plan too.

I really love my indoor Alfred cameras and I was very excited when they started selling the exterior cameras. I have been using Arlo as my outdoor security camera system. But Alfred has a much better, cost effective, subscription service.

I ordered two Alfred Plus exterior cameras. Unfortunately, it started to rain at 3:15 a.m. last night and the camera woke me up with over 30 alarms in rapid succession I until I turned off the alert function. I have the camera set at the lowest sensitivity and that did not help. Long story short, I can’t allow the camera to stay in alert mode or I won’t get sleep. This makes them not appropriate as a security camera. It’s very disappointing to me. I would like to move away from the Arlo system completely, but this apparently is not the answer.

I will continue to try different settings to mitigate this problem. And I will update if I find a solution.

I appreciate the Alfred app that this camera is clearly made for, and it’s super easy to set up and select the options you want for individual cameras. Except a lot of alerts, the Alfred app has been reliable when using old phones as cameras, but this product solved a major problem with using just phones. I have a Lorex system at another house and it too sends these same types of alerts. Alfred for indoor using phones is not a problem, but I’m not leaving a phone outside that’s all logged in and plugged into power. This camera solved the image reflection when phones are aimed through a window because it can by mounted outside. This is my second camera since they were made available. I mounted them under eaves to protect from direct weather, and was able to angle the image to be able to see outside day and night. “Person only” motion detection works better at avoiding false alarms than with the phones, but it’s definitely not perfect. The image quality is quite clear day or night. Nice job, Alfred.

I used the free version of the app with an old iPhone for awhile then decided to purchase some of their cameras. After I installed the new camera I decided to pay for the subscription. It had more than doubled only after I added their camera. They won’t even honor their price on the App Store. These will be returned forthwith.

Not only is Alfred Cameras reasonably priced. I also get to use my old phones as cameras too. I just wish there was a way to get my old phones to capture with night vision. The Alfred App is extremely more user friendly & has a lot more customizable features plus their premium membership is way cheaper. Alfred does not make you buy a membership for each device like Aiwit does. Once I realized Alfred now has a outdoor camera & is currently on sale, I decided to get a new camera for my front door. The Aiwit camera I used until now, kept malfunctioning & is less than 6 months old. The screen constantly goes either neon pink or white & remains that way for hours. I can’t figure out why. Its not even exposed to 💦 & even if it was, the camera is suppose to be waterproof. The Aiwit camera issues is even more frustrating, because I already paid for a year long premium membership for that camera along with 2 other devices. In total the Aiwit cameras cost me $90 per year for the premium membership (each device is $30 per year). Plus the cost of the cameras themselves.
I just got my Alfred Camera today & so far so good. Only issue so far for me is the video quality keeps reverting to the lowest setting when I stop viewing the camera. Also, for some reason, I thought the camera was rechargable & wireless. I’m going to try using a solar panel to power it.
If something changes, I’ll update this review.

I want to love the camera, it’s cheap-ish, decent specs and video quality for the price, and mostly works with the Alfred app.

However, it only works with the Alfred app. If you want to use it as a webcam or something, it’s not possible.

I don’t think it’s their intention, but it seems like it’s a way to trap you to their ecosystem. Without the app, it’s a paperweight.

If there was a way to use the camera outside the Alfred app and ecosystem, then I’d be more likely to recommend it.

I’ve been using the Alfred app for about 4-5 years and it’s incredibly stable. I started out by using old smartphones as security cameras. After years, I decided to go for Alfred’s own cameras. I highly recommend the premium subscription , which offers cloud recording, motion detection and human detection, and an automatic night vision feature.
