New Tablet (I could not give it 5 stars but it is a good value.)
My other tablet is a Samsung Tab S8 Ultra. A fantastic (and big and expensive) tablet. Since it is so big and expensive, it is not a good choice for field work, especially an African safari that I am going on. I could just look at my photos on my phone but the small screen is not the best for choosing keepers and losers. This tablet is small enough to fit in a camera bag and cheap enough that it will work for what I want. I can also use it for Kindle, downloaded videos, etc during travel I have decided that this $80 device will work for what I need. Here are some thoughts.
Wifi is slow. It does not connect to 5G wireless. My computer can get over 100 mbs from my internet. This device gets about 30. But it does work.
The USB connection is a micro USB connecter. (It is NOT type C.) It only goes in one way since the top and bottom have different widths. This is an old type that is currently mostly used for charging devices. It works for charging this device. The connection on this device will support data transfer to a computer. It will also support what is called OTG (on the go) but it will only do this to a standard USB A (rectangular plug) thumb drive if you have a micro to type A connection that is specifically designed to allow OTG. If you carefully search Amazon you can find these connections for about $5. Many cables that will connect USB A to USB micro only work for data and charging and will not work with OTG. Without OTG you can not connect a thumb drive. With the right connector, you can, and you can use a file manager (I use File manager + from the Play store) to transfer files to the device or to the micro sd card that you can insert. You can work with files directly from the USB type A thumb drive). I have not been able to connect a USB SSD or hard drive.
Will take a 1T sd card. Upload to it is slow but videos play well. Everyone says that you can only use a 128 G sd card but this has worked for me. Your mileage may vary.
This device cannot play FHD videos. It is not fast enough and the picture jumps around or does not move at all. It does play 1080 x 768 videos and SD videos. Of course, 4K is out of the question.
You can put a lot of jpg photos on the sd card or on a thumb drive connected using OTG. It takes a while for the photos to reach full resolution but it does work.
It works well as a kindle reader.
It works well with YouTube.
The speaker is not great but it has a 3.5mm earphone plug.
I installed and ran Microsoft Excel and it worked. I will not use it much on this device but it is interesting that it runs.
I will revise this after I have more experience with it.
