Review Update Dec 31, 2022
All of my comments about the photo quality were from the LCD display on the back of the camera. I copied the cameras’ photos to my desktop, did some minor edits, and examined the results. I had taken about 40 photos, only 2 were worth printing.
All of the 40 shots I took were in a well lit room, but still indoors. I’m sure the photo quality would be better outdoors. Examining the finished photos I’ve determined that the best results came from when the subject was quite still, whether a person or an object. The ISO was set to auto.
Initial Review Dec 29, 2022
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this camera. There were errors in the Amazon product page. For example one section said the camera had Optical Zoom while other places stated Digital Zoom (Digital is correct). It also said there was no auto focus, nor manual focus. Yet the camera clearly does have a form of auto focus. With errors like these I wondered what the real characteristics of the camera were. After having it in my hands and checking out all of the features I have to say my fears were for nothing.
While writing this review I must keep in mind the price of the camera, and I hope the audience can keep that in mind while reading this review. I have about $6,000 of quite good photographic equipment. I can’t possibly compare this Novzzovaz with my higher end gear.
This is a small, all plastic, lightweight, point-n-shoot camera that mimics a full size DSLR. The main body fits in the palm of my hand. There is a circular protrusion on the front which makes the camera resemble an interchangeable lens model. There is no other reason for that protrusion other than to make the little camera look cute.
On the back of the camera is a quite decent 3” LCD monitor. The monitor is bright and sharp with good colors. There is a metal ¼-20 tripod screw hole on the bottom.
All of the controls are on the back and top of the camera. The user has more controls than I expected for this price.
1) ISO
2) Exposure Compensation
3) 8 control options on the top including Program mode, Burst mode, Macro Mode, and Night scene mode. There are other scene selections for things like portrait and sport.
4) A Zoom lever on the shutter button
5) A separate Video button
All operator controls and settings are shown as icons on the LCD display.
Charging the battery is done inside the camera using a USB cable to a power source. The camera can be operated while charging. Battery life seems short to me, but recharge time is quick.
There is a “flashlight” on the top of the camera. It is not a flash but rather it is a light. This smart little camera will turn the light on, take a photo, then turn the light off. The light is bright enough to actually improve shots taken in darker environment. It works!
Additional controls are available by using the Menu button giving access to:
– Pixel density
– White balance
– Exposure Setting
– Metering Mode
– Sharpness
– ISO
– Video format
– Rotate
– Date and Time
– …more
Picture Quality: The actual finished image is quite respectable. The camera information says it has a One Inch sensor which, if true, is a large sensor for this category of camera. Taking photos returns good photos. Using the digital zoom, up to 16X, returns poor images.
The photo results of this camera are not as good as the current mix of high end cell phones. They aren’t as good as three year old cell phone camera results either. But if the target user of these cameras is for a young child the quality will be better than fine. Even three to five year old cell phone cameras returned pretty good quality photos.
VIDEO quality: I’m a still photo shooter but my 12 year old son is all into video. He is quite pleased with the video quality. He was even using this camera today as his webcam which was much better than the built in laptop front camera.
Cons:
– Short battery life
– Not waterproof
– No multi-photo delete feature
I offer this small point and shoot as a less expensive alternative. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09ZP7MHN4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 We acquired this camera last summer. It too was a surprise to me as it has a rich set of features and is also submersible. That dual screen camera lists for nearly ½ the price of this camera.
I recommend either this Novzzovaz or the dual screen point-n-shoot
